Unable to remember the events of the evening, tests later
confirmed the repeat rapes, along with traces of Rohypnol in her blood
and Progesterex, essentially a small sterilization pill.

The drug is now being used by rapists at parties to rape AND sterilize
their victims. Progesterex is available to vets to sterilize large
animals. Progesterex is being used together with Rohypnol, the date
rape drug.

As with Rohypnol, all they have to do is drop it into the girl's
drink. The girl can't remember a thing the next morning, of all that
had taken place the night before. The weasels can get this drug from
anyone who is in the vet school or any university.

It's that easy, and Progesterex is about to break out big on campuses
everywhere. It can be a generalized situation where excessive sweating appears all over the body or focal hyperhidrosis where the excessive sweating is situated in areas such as the hands, armpits, feet or the face. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

This describes the anatomical annotation of the nerve segment responsible for this excessive sweating. Over the last 10 years the accumulated knowledge changed the focal treatment to the level T3-T4 which describes a segment somewhat lower to the one described above. This change and the utilization of titanium clips vs. destroying the nerve segment improved the current treatment. Another improvement is that now there are different surgical procedures available for different types of focal hyperhidrosis (Hands, Armpits, Feet).

Over the last 15 to 20 years where more cases have been performed we realized that the most common denominator is genetic predisposition. In more than 50% in selected papers written by both Dr. Reisfeld and other authors it has consistently shown 50% or more have some genetic history. It is not always in successive generations as we have seen it skip generations. Other causes such as anxiety situations, dietary reasons have not proven to be a factor. On the other hand some trauma to the head and chest area can be traced to the source of hyperhidrosis in a very small amount of cases. There are other factors that may contribute to generalized total body hyperhidrosis and those are obesity, hyper thyroidism, infections, diabetes, etc.

Since the genetic factors are the most important with regards to excessive focal sweating it is the belief of Dr. Reisfeld that one day genetic manipulation will be the ultimate treatment modality. Unfortunately, at present, this is a very futuristic hope because the knowledge and kno whow in its infancy stages.

The wish to control excessive sweating with simple means such as pills, lotion, etc is a very old. Doctors have tried to treat excessive sweating with pills, lotions, deodorants, electric devices, acupuncture, bio-feedback. The success rate for the severe cases is extremely limited. Surgical treatments were available for the last 50 to 60 years. Obviously the initial surgical approaches were quite invasive and had complications. Since the development of optical surgical equipment, endoscopic surgeries became the yardstick for different procedures. Sympathectomy can be done now on an outpatient basis. There are minimal small incisions and the patient can return to normal activity in a short amount of time. Dr. Reisfeld has been a world leader in the development of endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy and now lumbar sympathectomy.

In deed we may say that our political office holders are the cause of our half implementation of various projects we are witnessing in every areas in Nigeria. And even the masses quest for infrastructures such as good roads, hospital, social amenities among others, has taken away our certified common sense, as we only desire to see infrastructure, whether of good quality or not.

One of such is half implemented projects is the deplorable state of roads in Nigeria. The recent degradation of roads in our country is generating a lot of concern as question of various magnitude keep coming to one’s mind when pondered upon the present state of our roads.

In Lagos for instance, virtually all the roads are flooded whenever it rains and seldom ocean surge in certain parts of the state. This is because of its location not far from sea level. Little wonder, there was an article an article published recently on lagos as being in danger of over flooding. Yet, our political leaders and their so-called contractors would never think of constructing roads with drainage channels. Thus, unmotorable during and after raining periods.

The continuous road maintenance project contract between World Bank and Lagos State Government seems obviously to have gone to bed. Newly constructed roads in recent weeks and the ones constructed at the close of the former governor Tinubu, are fast deteriorating with many of them full of pot holes. No back up maintenance! Many streets across the state can no longer boast of good roads.

What can one say of the sides of the roads cut away by telephone network providers to lay their optical fibres and the ones state government created to lay street-light cables. They have so far become death traps for motorists. In no time such sections of the roads will get huge amount of contract to be reconstructed without proper back-up and continuous maintenance.

Heavy traffic witnessed day-to-day in Lagos is traceable to these abandoned sections of the mega city project.

Over the years we have witnessed metamorphosis in the Nigeria Police. Different era ushered in different nomenclature for the Nigeria police force. For instance, Marwa’s regime birthed ‘Operation Sweep’ in Lagos, and so other states, in their attempts to show the commitments of police in ensuring security of life and property.

It is interesting to know however, that deeply within the police lay bad eggs among the good ones who do not only spoil others but as well destroy and contaminate them, making them of no reputation among citizens. These and many criminal activities they have carried out through politician t perpetrate their corrupt practices both while in office or during electoral processes to rig and manipulate elections.

The populace either is not deceived by their series of ecdysis in attempt to be welcomed into the society. On the contrary their heinous and corrupt practices are being exposed day by day. Extortion and bribery collection among the police from the top officials to the lowest had ever since remained major spots among others in the force.

Their routine charade of sanitizing the police has failed to wash off the spots that have become permanent stain among them. Hat is to say that, no matter how mush it rains, it can not wash off the spots of a leopard.

Recently, it seems to me that the police have acquired new skill in embarking on their bribery mission after being banished from extorting money from motorists, most especially the commercial city of Lagos. They now device new scheme of compelling motorists to give money in exchange of whatever goods they are carrying. Failure to do so amount to seizure or unnecessary delay of such individuals.

One may be curious to ask how they are able to spot vehicles carrying loads on the road. Is it not amazing to see a police sitting in the front seat of a lorry, tipper or pick-up vehicles carrying loads? For such vehicles to pass successfully on Lagos roads, they must take a police, having struck a deal with the officer on agreed amount of money/fee. Otherwise would have themselves blamed when such ones are stopped on the way. The stubborn ones might think they would escape on the road. These our expert officers are also clever by observing the tyres of on-coming vehicles in which anyone suspected t have to have his tyres near the ground is stopped for ‘interrogation’ which eventually will give in to their payment demand for failure to attach a policeman to the vehicle.

When will these corrupt practices end in the Nigeria Police? At what point in time are we going to have corrupt–free police force? Will it ever happen in this part f the world/ these and many more questions are t be answered and backed with actions, by the new IG before they can actually boast of fighting crimes. Till that happen, we will wait in anticipating and hope that it comes to pass

Have you ever taken off your time to consider ants for a second? Or considered the wise saying of King Solomon in the Proverbs which says "go to the ants, thou sluggard, consider her ways, and be wise?"

Have you ever taken off your time to consider ants for a second? Or considered the wise saying of King Solomon in the Proverbs which says "go to the ants, thou sluggard, consider her ways, and be wise?"

There is so much to be learnt from these tiny creatures called ants. It is apparently known that the world can not exist without talking about them. Perhaps, because of their records of longest existing animals-which had occupied the earth for more than 100million years; their cosmopolitant nature of being found almost everywhere on the planet; being the most successful and abundant species; their strong sense of sociological functions and industry; and complex communication processes.

For sure, ants do communicate, even though, we can not hear or decode the meaning of what they are saying. However, their sense of communication has proved greatly to be the most effective and successful of their factors of survivals. Humans of course have a lot to benefit from these communication functions. Scientists on the other hand, have been able to identify different ways and means of their communication such as, use of scent, touch and sound- which is only heard by themselves.

For instance ants use sophisticated communication to coordinate their specialized tasks. A key form of ant communication is the chemical signal called a pheromone. Many species emit alarm pheromones to alert nestmates to danger and attract them to the site of a disturbance. Some ants spread streaks of so-called trail pheromones on the ground to guide nestmates to food, areas needing defense, or new nest sites. The long lines of ants sometimes seen streaming from a nest are following these signals. Pheromones are also used to mark territory boundaries in some species. Intruders that enter a nest are attacked because they have a different odor than the inhabitants. Workers use chemical signals on the larvae’s body surfaces to identify and feed young in the dark interior of a nest. Workers groom one another in response to odors, and ants even rely on odor to learn whether a colony member has died. When a dead ant is discovered in the nest, it is carried outside.

The queen emits a large number of pheromones, which serve various purposes in the colony. Some of a queen’s pheromones attract workers to groom and feed her. Many pheromones given off by a queen affect the physiology, rather than the behavior, of other ants. For example, certain pheromones released from a queen prevent the ovaries of adult workers from maturing, and other pheromones from queen ants may determine the caste of the developing larvae.

Some ant species use sounds to communicate alarm. Carpenter ants drum their heads on the floor of their chambers, and leafcutter ants and harvester ants make squeaking sounds if their nest caves in. Nestmates follow these sounds to find and rescue the trapped ants.

Ants also use touch, particularly using their antennae, to communicate. Ants that have discovered a large food source may attract the attention of other ants by striking them with their antennae, legs, or heads. Some primitive ants engage in duels that involve hitting one another with their antennae. These duels determine which of the workers will be dominant and remain near the brood.

Much of the work in ant colonies is performed without direct communication. In these instances, ants take cues directly from the tasks themselves. For example, the collapse of a passageway will induce certain ants to repair parts of the damage, while other workers respond to later cues to step in to complete the job. The ability of ants to respond directly to tasks avoids attracting huge numbers of workers to participate in a task that requires only a few workers.

Scientists, further in their quest for knowledge and understanding of ants’ world have made remarkable impacts in global economy and technological advancement. The recent research work of Professor Mike Holcombe of University of Sheffield, showed that, through studying of ants, new discoveries in the areas of technology and Biology can be developed to improve human conditions. The research further showed how the study could improve Transport, communications, Mobile phones, Business networking and Computer networks.

It is therefore vivid that there can actually be no end to this great exploit in the world of ants for as long as mankind stands to benefit from them. This was further illuminated by another don from the same University, Professor Francis Retnieks, he said "there is much we can learn from the simple solutions ants have found for complex problems. Ants have been solving these problems for millions of years, while we humans have only just started to need to."

As there remains many human puzzles to be solved, may be a further visits to these creatures might provide us the solutions. Thus, we need to heed to the Wisest King Solomon’s Advice.

Growing up in the village with my grandmother, there are certain lessons of life which were instilled in me as a little child. These lessons learnt are still guiding me to this present day. One of them is the character and culture of the rich. I was also meant to know the ways and manners of the rich as clearly different from the deviants and wayward. This was not a strange thing when I later came across it in my course of studying sociology.

Riches, I believe should make men wiser. The richer a man becomes the wiser he should be. This is not far fetched from the fact that a rich man had experienced difficulties, problems, and hardship of any kind, having stood against all odds to acquire what he has now. All these amount to why a rich man is considered to be wiser than his counterparts considered paupers.

However in Nigeria, reverse is the case. This may be due to the fact that many so called rich men in our country get their wealth through fraudulent means, illegal acts, dubious practices and unethical ways. Judging by the standard of living of the elites, they are seen in the society as being reserved, cultured, tamed, easy going, e.t.c, ruling out the few exceptions. Every poor person on the street refers to them as pacesetters, and often cautions their children to grow up and emulate them.

But, how do we explain the unruling behavior of our so-called rich men in this country. To be specific, it is the rich we see behind the wheels following one-way, disobeying the traffic rules. A rich man in Nigeria is seen boxing and wrestling the poor man for hitting his car on the road.

In education, the influence of these elites of ours has led to deteriorations of academic standard, quality of education and hence, nature of graduates from our higher institutions. For instance, it is the rich we find driving their wards to ‘Special Center’ for external examinations like JAMB, NECO, and WASSCE. They influence the supervisors and even the security men at the entrance.

In schools, the rich always fight against their children being demoted for low performances thereby withdraw such students and immediately register them for GCE or while in the process of completing SS2 class, the child is writing WASSCE elsewhere. How do we explain a situation in which a student who is yet to make 55% average pass mark in SS1 is immediately registered for WASSCE because he wants to leave the country as soon as possible?

Indiscipline in our private schools is growing at alarming rate as result of ‘the rich factor’. Students are always right for whatever offence they commit. There is always contention in several private schools among the teachers and the rich parents as regard discipline. Often times, these rich men are so confident to disregard any form of respect for the teachers. They walk into school premises arrogantly to slap, yell and sometimes beat up teachers who for one reason or the other impose disciplinary actions on their wards. Even the principals of these private schools are not spared. They persistently advocate for the abolition of cane in schools in schools and this they have achieved reasonable results. In such schools, teachers are seen as underdogs and must not in any case discipline their wards or else their appointment terminated.

As a teacher, it is my desire to teach in standard and well-paid private schools. However, the higher the school fees of such schools, the higher the level of indiscipline. Therefore, for a disciplined person who at the sight of indiscipline gets irritated, I have to endure the pay where there is a considerate level of discipline.

It is therefore, high time we began to talk sense into our rich men. The deviant and unruling behavior of these rich men are what we see day-to-day in the lives of their children whom we consider future generation. The future of this country is in the hands of these upcoming generations, both the poor and the rich alike. There is urgent need for us to wake up to our responsibility of African tradition, which had preserved the past generation from decay and to perpetuate the name of our dear country Nigeria among community of nations

It is not uncommon to associate thuggery, fighting, and violence of any kind with life under-the-bridge in which Ojuelegba is not an exception. Over the years, under-the-bridge had been identified with different riotous activities at one point or the other. The latest been the clash between The Police and The Soldiers at Abalti Barracks over the use of commuter bus popular known as ‘danfo’.

As a result of these violent activities, commuters are always cautious of the life under the bridge. Some of them express fear of being attacked by pocket snatchers, hand bag snatchers and gentle men of the underworld. This fear makes people to be time conscious while passing Ojuelegba. It is not strange therefore, to see fewer commuters and pedestrians at dusk.

However, a coin will always have two sides. Life is fun for some people here at Ojuelegba most especially under the bridge, not only for the commercial bus drivers and their conductors called ’agberos’ but also market men and women.

In Lagos, where there is constant war between tenants and their landlords over indiscriminate increase in house and shop rents, under the bridge Ojuelegba had been able to accommodate such people who not only pitch their tents but in addition put up kiosks of various magnitude to create room for their businesses. Some business men and women are so blessed under the bridge that they need not worry about electricity as transport unions have successfully fixed light under the bridge fort proper illumination.

Through their constant cordial and friendly interaction with the ‘agbero boys’ and the unit chairmen give them security needed t ensure not only their safety but also of their goods. It is a splendid atmosphere for these business men and women that while others panic and hurry to pass by, they relax and smile without fear of any kind.

Life on Sundays is fun sometimes for the ‘agbero boys’ who take advantage of the empty space t play football. So, interesting that passersby are forced at times to stop and watch their interesting game, forgetting the fear of being attacked. This caught my attention and made me think that nothing is totally bad, if only we can look at the other side the coins; there are no trash without worth but benefits to be derived.
